I found myself taking pictures of the life of children in the slum streets of Phenom Phen, Cambodia when I realized what I was doing was all wrong. You see, I got into the non-profit world because I wanted to do something about the 100+ million orphans in the world and began by putting small projects together such as delivering clean water to families to keep them healthy to taking baby formula to orphanages so that orphaned babies would be cared for. What I noticed as I was raising money and developing support was that my natural tendency was to spit out tragic numbers and statistics to convince people that they needed to help to.
Think about it.
Imagine an orphan. What do you see? Most people see a kid standing in a pile of trash with dirty clothes and face and a sad glare in their eyes.
Imagine a mother with HIV/AIDS. What do you see? Most people see a person laying in bed who’s body has been ravaged by the disease.
Imagine human trafficking. What do you see? You get the point.
Inspire with Hope.
We have to be committed to inspiring people with hope rather than guilt in order for all humanitarian to last. Guilt doesn’t change the heart, but simply seeks to remove the guilt and thus making any action temporary ones. However, hope changes the heart through and through. At the core, it’s the longing that hope creates that moves the heart towards lasting change. Hope allows people to look past the dire situations people face and imagine something greater.
This is why I started Creative Hope. Non-profit profit marketing isn’t supposed to make people feel guilty, but is supposed to inspire. We want to help non-profit organizations communicate their mission in a way to empower people with hope. We are a not-for-profit organization because we wanted organizations that we work with to trust us with their mission. We are about the bigger picture.
Imagine an orphan. Do you see a child being surrounded by love?
Imagine a mother with HIV/AIDS? Do you see her taking care of her children because she’s receiving the medical care that she needs?
Imagine hope.
Live a life that gives hope.
